Eco innovations happen, just like human waste happens, or so a bumper stick-on slogan or two once said? Since history often repeats, don’t you think that a solution to running out of fossil fuels might also occur in the future? The reason I say this is that I am not so worried as many about running out of fossil fuels or even feeding our over-population time bomb, as some call it. I trust our entrepreneurs and innovators to solve this problem, they’ve solved all the problems of the past.
We no longer use steam engines, or sails to cross the ocean with cargo, nor do we have to clean the horse crap off the streets after getting groceries from the local market. Still, you need to hear the compelling evidence on the other side of this fierce debate so please read:
“Humans: An Endangered Species – The Only Solution” by Jason G. Brent, Self-Published, Las Vegas, NV, 2012, 121 pages, ISBN: 978-0-9854129-6.
The author has stated in this work; “since no rational person can believe that the supply of fossil fuels is infinite, a rational person who disagrees with what is written in this paragraph must take the position then that the genius of our species will find alternative energy sources that can be substituted for fossil feels, such that a dramatic decrease in population would not be necessary.”
Well, I will say to the author, and I’ve stated it personally, that I believe we should get more credit to the genius of our species, and trust that when the price of oil gets to a point where it is unaffordable, that an alternative will appear merely due to the fact that “necessity is the mother of invention” and that there will be huge amounts of money to be made by providing such a new energy source. It’s amazing what entrepreneurship can do, and having been self-employed as an innovator and entrepreneur all my life, I’ve seen it firsthand, even participated.
Therefore, I have no doubt whatsoever that mankind will rise to the occasion, and I wouldn’t count out the human species, or predict their doom and gloom just because we ran out of an energy source such as oil, coal, natural gas, or any of the others. After all, we can substitute energy generation with nuclear power instead of coal, instead of natural gas, instead of hydroelectric, or any of the others. Likewise in the future we will have better solar cell technology with better efficiency. No, I’m not completely sold on solar power either, I’m just saying don’t be surprised if we don’t solve this problem.
Further, there are other fuels such as hydrogen, and H2 is very abundant in our world. We also have an abundance of methane, and although it isn’t the best fuel to use, it is a fuel we can use nevertheless. You’d be surprised what we can come up with if we have to, but I won’t be. Please consider all this and think on it.
